9 Must-See Moments from the 2017 Emmy Awards

Each year members of the entertainment industry gather to honor the best Television performances of the year. The night is typically filled with humor, talent, and social discussion, and this year was no exception with women, diversity and politics in the spotlight. The 69th annual Emmy Award show was led by comedian Stephen Colbert, who paved the way for numerous memorable moments. If you didn't have the chance to watch, keep reading for a highlight rundown.

1. A surprise guest appearance from Sean Spicer.

Former press secretary Sean Spicer took the stage shocking the entire crowd, including his SNL impersonator Melissa McCarthy.

2. Jackie Hoffman reacting to her loss.

Apparently she was kidding, but either way it is hilarious to watch.

3. RuPaul dressed up as the Emmy herself.

4. Nicole Kidman congratulated Alexander Skarsgard with a kiss.

The internet can't get over Nicole Kidman kissing her steamy co-star on the lips in front of if her husband, famous country singer, Keith Urban.

But people are talking about Kidman for a much more important reason...

5. Nicole Kidman's acceptance speech.

In her speech Kidman took the time to address serious a topic relevant to her character in the limited series Big Little Lies, and today's society, domestic abuse.

This year, history was made... more than once.

6. Lena Waithe is the first African American woman to win an Emmy for outstanding writing in a comedy series.

The Master of None writer thanked TV academy for accepting her in this role.

7. Julia Louis-Dreyfus set a record.

Louis- Dreyfus set a new record for most Emmys in a single role, and for an unprecedented eight wins by a single performer.

8. Donald Glover takes home two wins.

Not only did he win for best lead actor in a comedy series, but he also made history as the first African American to win Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.

9. Handmaid's Tale won the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series.

This wasn't a historic moment for all, but certainly was for me because this show is AMAZING. Throughout the night Handmaid's Tale cleaned up with a total of four Emmys.

In addition to Handmaid's Tale, shows such as Big Little Lies and SNL we're also highly awarded. This past year was an incredible year for TV, and I look forward to what the future holds as the Television industry continues to reach new heights of success.
